Spycra Protect consists of a soft silicone layer, over which a fine layer of flexible Lycra® fibers is applied. The dressing is skin-colored, silky and has self-adhesive properties. The dressing is bi-elastic (stretchable in length and width) and repositionable with rounded corners for better fixation. This reduces the negative effect of friction on fragile skin and the additional skin lesions such as blistering. The wide pore structure is air-permeable and allows the evaporation of perspiration. The removal or repositioning is painless and hardly reduces the adhesive power. Spycra Protect can be applied directly to both the intact skin and to small wounds and blisters.
ReSkin Silicone Skin Technology
Applications
Spycra Protect can be used preventatively in skin at risk to support fragile skin, but also to reduce the risk of friction wounds.
Epidermolysis Bullosa
An important problem for EB patients is the protection of vulnerable skin zones. Blistering occurs mainly on hands and feet, but can occur on any part of the body when exposed to friction. Good protection can reduce the number of blisters and severity of skin damage. Soft silicone products are well tolerated and can usually be removed without pain and further damage to the fragile skin.
Spycra Protect can be applied to the following areas:
Clinical research with EB patients
Results of clinical research into the use of Spycra Protect in Epidermolysis Bullosa show that the wound dressing is well accepted and experienced as comfortable. A reduction of lesions is decisive in patients with both severe and mild forms of EB. Most patients found Spycra Protect excellent protection for their fragile skin, some even claimed that it completely excluded skin damage due to friction. The protective silicone dressing proved to be very effective for these EB patient groups. The studies suggest that Spycra Protect is a valuable addition for all EB patients, with the bandage particularly suitable for Epidermolysis Bullosa Simplex patients.
